In 1916, John M. Sherrerd II started Sherrerd’s Greenhouses. They grew vegetables such as tomatoes, lettuce, & cucumbers to supply both their own produce stand as well as other stands on what was called “The Square” in Easton, Pennsylvania. Sometime during the 1930’s, the Sherrerds added the florist services to their business. They grew their own cut sweet peas as well as shipped them via the railroad to other florists. John M. Sherrerd II‘s son, John M. Sherrerd III assumed the family business in 1951. In 1960, the greenhouses were moved to their present location. During John M. Sherrerd II’s ownership, cut flowers such as carnations, snapdragons, and chrysanthemums, as well as annual bedding plants, poinsettias, & potted mums were added to their greenhouse production lines. Over the years, as air transportation became more prevalent and heating fuel costs soared, it became more effective to ship in cut flowers from countries outside the United States. By 1980, Sherrerd’s had removed themselves from the cut flower market. In 1992, John M. Sherrerd III sold the florist & greenhouses to his son, Robin. The business remained in the Sherrerd family until 1997, when it was sold to the Clinton Nurseries Corporation. Today, the Sherrerd family tradition of excellence continues through Sherrerd’s talented staff. They have gone back to their roots as a florist that prides themselves in quality and customer satisfaction. The pairing of the Garden Design with their floral offerings will allow them to nurture & grow beautiful relationships with their clients as they are there to assist in the celebration of life’s special moments. |
